time to celebrate

rob and i have been at the hive studios; sequestered in the skookum Studio Bee completing the final sound mix.

we've been there for 3 weeks now.

for all of you who have seen the Rough Cut of the doc(except for our friend, Ken M), please note that it's already different.

for instance, we've entirely replaced the start of the film. plus, we've cut about 8 minutes out of the film. it moves along much faster now.

FIRST order of business is to prepare a copy of the doc for SXSW cuz the deadline is next friday. then, we'll start submitting the doc to other film festivals.

but the SECOND order of business is setting up a website just for the documentary.

ALSO.......

the band's record label has asked us for permission to use our trailer in their promo package when promoting ladyhawk's second album. rob and i were flying high when we got the request. it's the most amazing feeling to know that people appreciate and are excited about the film.

the label plans on ramping up the marketing in january so we have about 1 month to pull together a decent website.

this is unreal.

boot shine

the best boots i've ever owned was purchased pre-owned at Front (on main st) for about $25. because i have "fat" calves and most boots don't fit me it was a miracle that a great pair of black boots that fit my obese calves could be found at a consignment store; if at all.

i love these boots and wear them 50% of the time from october to may. this explains why they were looking really natty. so, i decided to get them shined from the shoe shiner at the food fair close to my work.

as i'm walking towards him, i'm buzzing cause i'm going to experience something new for the first time and i love that.

i step up to a chair that's raised about half a metre. i feel like the queen.

i notice there are stirrups which i didn't anticipate and had a brief moment of association with nasty visits to the gynecologist. i push it out of my mind, though. this is going to be fun, dammit. focus on the boots.

we play this funny game where i'm apologizing for neglecting my boots and he's pretending to be angry.

so he cleans, then applies the polish, brushes my boots, and finally shines them with a cloth to their former glory.


voila!

it was only $8 dollars and took about 7 minutes.

then, i return to work and i'm telling someone about my boot shine and they say: you sat in that chair with a skirt?

crackle, snap and pop

rob and i have been at the hive recording studios for the past 3 days doing the final sound mix for the documentary. here are some thoughts/emotions that we've been experiencing:
- oh shit, there's all this crackly noise(i.e. the heater in the recording space). it's really noticable and sounds terrible
- where's the sound where duffy says "is everybody ready?"
- why can't i import the new video over the old video
- we're running out of time, maybe it doesn't sound so terrible
- crap, it really sounds terrible
- yah for EQs that take out some of the noise
- it's sounding better
- no, it's not, i can still hear the noise... the doc sucks

so, really a typical day for me.

we have the studio booked this wednesday night and saturday day for more sound mixing.

currently, i'm in a calm state of worry.
