no rest for the weary

this past friday, rob and i filmed the special day for a couple getting married.

i couldn't resist and brought along our new camera and took some pictures. i promise not to turn this blog into one of those camera-crazy blogs with endless artsy photographs; not that there's anything wrong with a camera-obsessed blog with endless artsy photographs.

so.
here are some artsy photographs of the bride's dresses.

and also this.
the next time i film a wedding, i'm taking the muscle relaxant half way through the day.

time travel

rob and i revisited our early twenties on boxing day when we got up at 5am to make it to tortureshop for their 6am opening to pickup an awesome deal on a canon xt thanks to a generous gift from my brother.

see photo below.

after returning home from our early morning sojourn, we promptly went back to sleep and didn't get up until noon. we suck at this time travel thing.

joyous season greetings

so.
i failed once again in making and sending out christmas cards.
again.

it happens every year and starts in november with a feeling of confidence that THIS YEAR is the year that I'll get the cards out by the first week of december.

and then life gets hectic and i keep telling myself i'll get to it tomorrow or the next weekend cuz i still have 4 weeks, 3 weeks, 2 weeks... 3 days before christmas to send them out.

anyways, rob was kind enough to remind me that it's not about the cards.
so, i dropped scope.
not the mouth washing product but the project deliverable that is christmas.

and suddenly, i was enjoying the season again. i even bought gifts.

we had a great dinner with my family supplemented with calls to out-of-town family in edmonton, kelowna and taiwan.

notice my brother's face; he was 1 minute away from crashing on the couch for the remainder of the evening due to a massive headache.

my nephew is looking a gift comprising of 4 small pocky boxes. lucky boy.

lucky me.

mid life crisis

so.
i received a trim from my stylist, vanessa, at barbarella today. she is amazing and both rob and i have our tresses managed by her.

and whilst telling her that i wanted to "keep the length," i realized something and it's this: instead of purchasing a porsche, i'm growing my hair to my butt.

it seemed less expensive than the porsche.

my big screen debut

rob and i helped out terry on his set yesterday for a short film competition on www.filmaka.com.

check out my acting debut.

it's all the on the "up and up" cuz it's rob behind the "behind the scenes" camera that's shooting this.

and, yes, i super want to lose some weight after seeing myself in this.

our little film

so we've already mailed off our little doc to 4 film festivals starting with SXSW which i've been describing to people as our holy grail. see picture.

the other 3 film festivals we've submitted to so far are:
seattle international film festival
nxne music and film festival in toronto
hotdocs: canadian internat'l documentary festival in toronto

we have the happy task of holding our breaths until February 15, 2008 to find out if we've been accepted into SXSW, March for hotdocs and May (!!) for SIFF and NXNE.

we'll also be submitting to more in the next couple of weeks but i won't bore you with listing all of them.

fingers crossed!!

non-intimdating cooking

i loved watching james barber's the urban peasant. he always appeared happy and content in his tvland kitchen, while cutting up vegetables in a very un-martha like manner that made me feel unashamed of my own chopping technique.

the world, although going to hell in a handbasket, was going to be alright because james barber's countenance was ever soothing.

his cookbook, peasant's alphabet, is my best loved of all my cookbooks; i've made more dishes from his cookbook than all my other cookbooks added together. the reason being that the list of ingredients is a short one and the instructions take about 3 sentences to explain. very approachable stuff.

so tonight, in his memory, i made a dish i've never made before: beef and guinness stew. rob helped me out by drinking the remaining guinness.

it was pretty awesome. thanks james.

meaty fun at korean restaurant

when our good friend, ken, came up from seattle for a visit, we had a busy schedule.

we ate
watched "before the devil knows you're dead"
ate some more
dragged him to the hive studios
and consumed more grub

on a cold saturday night, rob, ken, colin and i took a chance and entered Han Song Korean Restaurant (507 North Road, Coquitlam).

we gorged ourselves on bbq meat, seafood hotpot, yam noodles, and dong dong ju.

rob warned the three of us that dong dong ju is 12% alcohol and will make you body drunk rather than head drunk. it was, essentially, deliciously light rice wine delivered in a white porcelain teapot.

good times were had by all.
