A brief retreat at Salt Spring Island

Bill and I spent a week at Salt Spring Island this past week.

Besides sleeping in each and every day:
Bill read a bunch of books.
I made progress on a knitting project.
We watched 13 movies and a 6 part tv series.

We stayed in the 'love shack' and the name was pretty accurate; it was a teensy weensy space.

As soon as we entered the shack, I immediately wanted to leave. No joke. Bill managed to talk me off that ledge and helped me see it wasn't as bad as I thought.

Here's why I freaked out:
1. Besides the bed, there was 1 armchair and 2 wooden chairs. I was expecting a couch or sofa to laze about in, you know, as options for sitting/knitting/reading. My back's been sore lately so the thought of only being able to sit in bed felt oppressive to me.
2. The shack only had a half fridge. We were going to be there for 7 nights and we were going to cook for 5 of those nights and brought enough food for 5 dinners and 7 breakfasts. How was everything going to fit inside this tiny fridge?
3. There was a 2 burner stove top. How were our elaborate dinners going to happen on 2 burners that were only 6 inches apart?
4. The kitchen was SUPER TINY and only one of us could stand there at any given time. If someone was cooking, then access to the fridge was cut-off.
5. It was FREAKING COLD in the shack whenever we weren't contributing to the greenhouse effect with the burning of wood. We even boiled water to avoid destroying entire forests to keep warm.

So this is turning into a complaint post and I'm sorry for that. The shack, we believe, would be perfect during the summer. During the winter, it's slightly warmer than a cold frame.

My favourite was Dogtooth. It's crazy, uncomfortable and totally brilliant.
