recently watched films

"i'm not there" - it's just not for me. i could see that the concept was brilliant but the editing and all the acting (except for the always brillant cate blanchett) was okay. i'm not a dylan fan and needed the storytelling to be really great but it just didn't happen for me.



"300" - this film delivered exactly what i expected: lots of gore and testosterone. i was pleasantly surprised by how thoroughly i was entertained.




"superbad" - another surprisingly entertaining film. i thought it was "40yr old virgin" for teens but the humour wasn't dumbed down which made it awesome. of course, i was totally blotto when i watched it so i'll need to watch it again in a sober state. it's so cool that this story was written by someone (seth rogan) based on his highschool years growing up in vancouver. well, it was the west side of vancouver.



"the boss of it all" - by the imminent lars von trier who made such pick-me-ups like "dogville" and "breaking the waves." spoken in dutch, this 2006 film is pretty much "the office" but dutch-style. everything was great: acting, editing, and even cinematography. you see, lars inputted the dimensions of a room and the placing of the actors into a computer program and let the program dictate the placement of the camera. there were some pretty funny results. and one last thing, one of the female actors was the main girlfriend who dumped john cusack for tim robbins in "hi-fidelity."
