i loved watching james barber's the urban peasant. he always appeared happy and content in his tvland kitchen, while cutting up vegetables in a very un-martha like manner that made me feel unashamed of my own chopping technique.
the world, although going to hell in a handbasket, was going to be alright because james barber's countenance was ever soothing.
his cookbook, peasant's alphabet, is my best loved of all my cookbooks; i've made more dishes from his cookbook than all my other cookbooks added together. the reason being that the list of ingredients is a short one and the instructions take about 3 sentences to explain. very approachable stuff.
so tonight, in his memory, i made a dish i've never made before: beef and guinness stew. rob helped me out by drinking the remaining guinness.
it was pretty awesome. thanks james.
